How to create a timeless home.

  • Neutral colour pallet

When making a timeless home neutral colours will be your best friend. Greys, whites and beiges in particular. Timeless interiors are not just painted white though. Greys add a sense of glamour and relaxed feeling. Navy blues, dark greens are often used to complement a natural colour pallet.

Just because you have a neutral colour pallet doesn’t mean your home can’t have personality. A great way for you to add personality to your home while having a neutral colour pallet is to play around with the textures and shades of colour. You can do this through soft coloured throws or cushions. Artwork is a great way to make your home unique while keeping it timeless. Layering smaller pieces of colour won’t be too overwhelming.

  • Something old something new

Combine finishes, furniture and features of different eras and styles can help create a timeless space. By doing this your interior won’t scream a certain time period or design style. Balance is the essence of interior design.

  • Variety of furniture pieces

Don’t decorate one room with once particular furniture set, it will make the room feel manufactured and impersonal. Lacks creativity and intention. If you already own a furniture set consider spreading it across your house. For example, put one piece in the living room and another in the bedroom.

  • Enough storage

Timeless interior is one that feels open, clean and non-cluttered. Open shelving to display stone ceramics. Food and other non-aesthetic items can be placed in the cupboard; out of sight, out of mind.

  • No to trends

Trends are the exact opposite of timeless. They go out of date and tack in 5-6 years. It is rare that trends last. You can still have fun with trends but in small, reversable amounts such as pillows or throws. Keep it small and subtle.
